Really, the only law on the books is that you cannot place sportsbets via the telephone. They are making a far stretch to apply this.
Every year someoone in congress (Kyle) tries to pass an actual law against online gambling, and every year it fails. I think it's been going on for 4 or 5 years.
There is also a lawsuit filed against the US government for discriminating against online gambling.
And the world court judged the US in violation of trade law for discriminating against online gambling.
So, there really isn't any law against it, which is why every year they try to pass one. And it looks more and more like the US will eventually follow Britain's lead and regulate online gambling.
That will be a great thing, gambling outfits who want it to be legal for US citizens to play at their sites will have to pay a licencing fee and clean up their act. No more shady places.
I have been watching this very closely for years now, and progress is slow but we are slowly starting to head in the right direction here.
Cross your fingers they'll get it right one of these days!
