The Alabama bingo bill is, well... Dead.
I just read that Democratic Sen. Roger Bedford is no longer going to push for the regulation of electronic bingo since his proposal fell three votes short on Wednesday.
He had been trying to have the senate allow for a full debate on adding a constitutional amendment to tax, regulate and expand electronic bingo casinos.
He also delayed his proposal of allowing the closed bingo halls to reopen.
Quote:
An opponent of the bills, Gov. Bob Riley, said senators understood the bills were crooked and gave a monopoly to a few politically connected casino bosses.
Another opponent, the Rev. Dan Ireland of the Alabama Citizen Action Program, said he expects the bills to resurface because too much money is at stake for casino operators.

So is this the last of it or not?
I think this is a real shame. What a great money making opportunity they are passing up on.
