    DFS Decided to Be Illegal by Illinois Attorney General

    Daily fantasy sports providers have been hit left and right by unfavorable opinions by Attorneys General lately, and the one from Illinois just adds to that list. Illinois AG Lisa Madigan gave her opinion lately that DFS is illegal in the state after being prompted to the question by figures in the legislature. This is an interesting way to get to this opinion, however, considering that the AG in New York recently did the same thing, except he did it of his own volition.

    Sports-Based Partnership Between NBC and Yahoo Continues

    NBC Sports and Yahoo have had a deal for a while that sees them combining Yahoo's daily fantasy sports product with NBC Sports' video library and other promotional services. This partnership is interesting because of the synergy that the two entities create since they complement each other so ridiculously well. They also show that they're both betting on fantasy sports to continue to be popular, and this is interesting timing considering the hot water the industry has been in lately.

    There are cases every single year of people stealing to gamble, and that's just a part of the industry that seems like it will never go away. If you look at a recent case out of Maidstone in the United Kingdom, you'll find a 57-year-old grandmother who has received jail time for 40 months for stealing from her employer. She stole a total of £913,000 from Tara Plant Hire and an additional £33,000 from Steadfast Carpentry.

    Effectiveness of the PokerStars Boycott Questioned

    High stakes and high volume players on PokerStars staged a boycott for the first three days of December, and it's not clear how effective it was. While they definitely brought attention to their complaints, the main effect was in the high stakes games, and how much that effects the company or the general player pool is difficult to measure. Overall, it would seem that the timing was poor and that there are too many variables to determine its effectiveness.
