    A company executive for American Wagering Inc. said last week that their application for allowing sports wagering from IPhones has been approved by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.  This would make American Wagering d.b.a. Leroy’s Horse and Sports Place Inc. the first gaming company in the U.S. to have a free sports application in the iTunes store.

    American Gaming Association Calls for New Regulations

    In an industry conference in Las Vegas, Chief Executive Frank Fahrenkopf of the American Gaming Association said he would like Congress to table all the current proposals in front of them and pass an all new regulation that would allow states to decide whether to all online gambling.There is an estimated $6 billion at stake and according to Fahrenkopf, “We’re perhaps closer to federal legislation than we’ve ever been.  There’s a buzz in Washington about the need for action.

    It seems that losing their license has not ruined the investor Groupe Bernard Tapie from agreeing to buy the struggling Full Tilt Poker.  The French investor as also agreed to pay back the over $300 million owed to players there. There are conditions however and one is that the company resolves its problem with the DOJ. Bernard Tapie is a former government minister, sports tycoon and actor and the Groupe is an investment firm that once owned Adidas in the 90’s.

    Court of Justice Sides with Austria

    The European Union’s highest court ruled that Austria could ban foreign gaming firms from operating within its borders. This was a hard hit by online gambling companies trying to release the stronghold of national gambling monopolies. A few online gambling companies have brought this up legally by bringing some of the EU member countries to court. With revenue of €80bn last year, there is much money at stake and so far they have had little success in court against EU members.

    In late August, opposition parties in Schleswig-Holstein requested that its ruling on a new State gambling treaty be delayed. At the time head of fiscal policy for the Green Party, Monika Heinold stated, “The aim must be a joint state contract.” Two days ago, Schleswig-Holstein, delayed its vote again at the last minute. Today the Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein took the first step by approving Germany’s first egaming legislation by a slim vote of 46-45.

    Full Tilt Pays Overdue Licensing Fees

    The Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) announced that Full Tilt Poker has paid overdue licensing fees thus allowing talks to end its suspended license to move forward. Martin Heslop, Full Tilt Poker’s lawyer, justified not paying the fees by saying that the poker room never thought it would have its operating license reinstated by Aldernay. The AGCC claims Full Tilt Poker’s license is still valid, just suspended. Another hearing is scheduled for no later than Sept. 15th.
