      Senator Lesniak Response to Reid/Kyle Letter

      One good letter deserves another it seems and though it at least keeps online gambling in the forefront in Washington it seems the war between state and federal politicians about the topic is heating up. New Jersey Senator Ray Lesniak sent his own letter to Attorney General Holder last week disputing some of the facts from the Senator Reid and Kyle letter that was sent earlier last week.

      Senator's Reid and Kyl Send Open Letter to AG

      U.S. Senator Harry Reid was one part of a strongly worded letter sent to Attorney General Eric Holder asking the Department of Justice (DoJ) to clear up its position on online gambling.       Bodog Gets First License Under New U.K. Requirements

      The U.K. government announced yesterday that overseas bookmakers offering online gaming in the UK will need a license from the Gambling Commission, currently licenses obtained in certain jurisdictions were treated as if they were licensed in Britain. According to John Penrose, the minister responsible for gambling policy, the regulations would be based on the “point of consumption rather than production”. There is also hint of a tax being involved in the new legislation.

      American Gaming Association (AGA) to Propose Online Poker Bill

      The American Gaming Association (AGA) publically showed a cool response to Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) federal online poker bill last week. In an address last week AGA chief Frank Fahrenkopf said his group was “not opposing [Barton’s bill], but we are not supporting it.” He said the AGA would throw its entire wait into a mystery bill.Fahrenkopf then said this mystery bill would differ from Barton’s proposal mainly in the way states are involved.

      U.K. Online Gambling Reforms Coming

      The dominoes are still falling after the 51 page indictment by the U.S. Department of Justice and now the British government is taking notice. It is Full Tilt Poker again at the center as they have left hundreds of British poker players, just like other online poker players who played there, left without being able to get a hold of their funds. This has prompted Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt to make a major overhaul to the UK online gambling licensing rules.

      Betfair Complains to EU About Germany's Gambling Treaty

      A draft over Germany’s gambling rules, which is still being considered by German authorities has Betfair Group Plc, a British online gambling site, already calling foul. According to Betfair, the draft will force it to pay over 16% on all stakes and it will also restrict licenses for private betting companies to seven. According to Betfair these new rules would be “discriminatory and protectionist.” Betfair complained to the European Union this week over this draft proposal.

      It has seem to go from bad to worse for Full Tilt poker since the April 15th indictments from the U.S. government. Their U.S. business cut off, do repayments to U.S. players, European license revoked and now it seems Full Tilt Poker in France no longer has a license either.The French site is run by a company named Rekop Limited.

      About 2 months ago Full Tilt Poker was dealing cards as one the top three internet poker sites. How quickly things can turn. April 15th brought down FBI indictments and a loss of their domain along with Pokerstars, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet. Shortly after they reached a deal with prosecutors to get their domain back only to process withdrawals along with Pokerstars, since then Pokerstars has paid back over $120 million to players and the other sites…zero.

      In a major online poker development today, Alderney Gambling Control Commission has suspended the operations license of Full Tilt Poker. This requires the online poker room to suspend operations immediately and currently the servers are down. Full Tilt Poker was one of the largest online poker rooms in operation up until the U.S. crackdown on April 15th.
