    Bernard Tapie to Buy Full Tilt Poker

    It seems that losing their license has not ruined the investor Groupe Bernard Tapie from agreeing to buy the struggling Full Tilt Poker.  The French investor as also agreed to pay back the over $300 million owed to players there. There are conditions however and one is that the company resolves its problem with the DOJ. Bernard Tapie is a former government minister, sports tycoon and actor and the Groupe is an investment firm that once owned Adidas in the 90’s.

    AGCC Revokes Full Tilt License

    The colossal fall from one of the largest online poker rooms to being accused of by U.S. prosecutors as being a “global Ponzi scheme” is now complete.  Earlier this summer it had its French license revoked and this week, Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) in the Channel Islands has also revoked its license.

    Paddy Power Looking for Nevada License

    Jeff Ifrah, a lawyer for Full Tilt stated today that “The future is a question of whether we can still find an interested investor.” Ifrah also announced that the company is in talks with a yet unnamed French investor and another possible buyer.Full Tilt it could be argued has been the hardest hit since the DOJ released indictments on three online poker companies in April.

    Court of Justice Sides with Austria

    The European Union’s highest court ruled that Austria could ban foreign gaming firms from operating within its borders. This was a hard hit by online gambling companies trying to release the stronghold of national gambling monopolies. A few online gambling companies have brought this up legally by bringing some of the EU member countries to court. With revenue of €80bn last year, there is much money at stake and so far they have had little success in court against EU members.

    The Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein Passed Egaming Legislation

    In late August, opposition parties in Schleswig-Holstein requested that its ruling on a new State gambling treaty be delayed. At the time head of fiscal policy for the Green Party, Monika Heinold stated, “The aim must be a joint state contract.” Two days ago, Schleswig-Holstein, delayed its vote again at the last minute. Today the Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein took the first step by approving Germany’s first egaming legislation by a slim vote of 46-45.
