If you’re relatively new to the world of online backgammon tournaments, sometimes the best places to get your feet wet are online freeroll tournaments. By definition, a freeroll tournament is one where player pay nothing to participate, and can win real cash and bonuses. Places like BGRoom.com feature several online freeroll backgammon tournaments, so many, in fact, that they have over $10,000 up for grabs every single month.
As I mentioned before, some online freeroll tournaments give out real money prizes and others, like BGRoom, award bonus money to its winners. Bonus money can be treated like cash, however, as it allows you to participate in other real money tournaments where the stakes may be higher and the money is a little more accessible.
The best thing about most backgammon freeroll tournaments is that most online backgammon sites will allow you to play without making a deposit. All you need to do is register as a player, and then register for the tournament.

Buckman is the new PacMan

I’d be remiss if I failed to write a post this year to commemorate PacMan’s 30th birthday. Created May 22, 1980, PacMan revolutionized video games as we know them, and by “revolutionized” I mean “created”. While we may no longer play games a la arcade like we used to, we still love our nostalgic games with a twist for new technology. And now you can actually win money while playing.
Enter Buckman from Game Colony.
Make no mistake, Buckman is about as PacMan as you can get without infringing on copyrights. You won’t care so much about the name or the fact that the ghosts are being played by Red Spiders. The “Power Pills” are still in every corner, the “Yellow Dots” still line the paths of the maze, and that chunk of cheddar is still missing from Buckman’s wheel-like body.
Buckman Tournaments are arcade-style, which means you can play and compete against players from around the world by attempting to get the high score. . To be exact, there are two types of Buckman Tournaments offered by Game Colony:
- Jackpot Buckman Tournaments: These tournaments run at determined start and end times. Progressive Jackpot Buckman Tournaments feature a prize pool that grows with each participant, so the more competition you have, the bigger your winnings will be when you crush them all. You’ll always have access to the current Progressive Tournament prizes and its distribution (which will vary depending on the number of participants).
- Instant Prize Buckman Tournaments: These tournaments are range in size from head-to-head to up to 10 players. Featuring a guaranteed prize, these Buckman tournaments are battle-to-the-death; the last player standing wins. Winner gets the guaranteed prize pot, the amount of which can vary (but, as a guaranteed tournament, you’ll know the prize going in).
Think you have what it takes to make your high score work for you? Play Buckman at Game Colony and see what you’re missing (aside from a lot of cash potential).

Not too late to play Paddy Power’s 24/24 Madness!

Last month we posted about the launch of the PaddyPower Games 24/24 Madness, which was a marathon, power tournament involving 24 games, 24 days, and a chance at £/€24,000. As the PaddyPower tournament winds down on November 16th, we thought we’d check in to see how the participants are doing, and to let you know how you can still grab a slice of the action.
- Opt in to grab your share of the £/€24,000 bounty. As you can only “opt in” once, your chances of winning are the same as a bloke who signed up at the end of October.
- With 100 prizes up for grabs, it leaves a lot of room at the top. You still have lots of wagering pile to grab a spot near the top. Points are tallied by £/€1 wagered, so as long as you keep playing, winning, and wagering, you have a shot at a cash prize or free betting money.
- Play the Game of the Day while you can. Players get triple points on that special game to go toward their leaderboard status, and anyone playing the Game of the Day also gets entered in a chance to win one of ten free bets worth £/€240!
If you don’t participate in the 24/24 Madness, you still have a great assortment of online skill games to choose from. Since PaddyPower gives you a daily tally of what the current popular games are, you can either play what everyone else seems to be playing (European Roulette is always popular) or you can find your next new favorite game on their extensive menu of online skill games and chance games.
Baby Got Backgammon

I keep coming back to online Backgammon every time I go to write this blog. There are several reasons for it:
- There are a lot of great online Backgammon tournaments and online Backgammon sites that feature solid competition, fun interactions, and well-executed software.
- Backgammon has been called the world’s oldest game for a reason–people can’t stop playing it. If you haven’t started playing the game that is better than online checkers and more social than Internet chess, then I haven’t done my job effectively.
- There’s only so much you can say about Darts and Rock-Paper-Scissors, as worthy an online Skill Game as they are.
- Games and Casino has a ginormous spread of Backgammon Rules and Strategies, and it’s a shame we really don’t get to brag out it.
- There are so many ways to play with online Backgammon into the blog title. Backgammon for more, Baby Come Backgammon, Backgammon to the Future. Don’t roll your eyes, I’ll probably use these!
And I wasn’t kidding about the software. Those of you who may be used to playing “games of chance” may overdose on Flash on occasion, but occasionally it’s nice to play a game that really uses your mind and, as a game of skill, is legal in most places. It’s even nicer when you can do it without breaking (or wanting to break) the software it’s played on. Places like BGRoom Backgammon and Party Gammon feature downloaded software so true-to-life, you’ll have to pinch yourself to make sure you’re really competing against players around the world. There may be other things you could be doing in the middle of the night, but playing backgammon online at Play 65 with your new friends requires far less stretching.
If you do want to get limbered up, you’ll want to check out our hot and sweaty Backgammon workouts. Learn What You Need to Know Before Playing Backgammon as well as the various online Backgammon Games available.
With such a large international following, I might even be so bold to say that Backgammon could very well be the new Bingo of online gaming, certainly of online skill tournaments. Who’s going to prove me wrong?
