The internet has long been regarded as a wonder of the modern world – but in Lorraine McDonald’s house it will forever remembered as a life-changer.

The 29-year-old from Hinckley is still reeling after scooping more than £420,000 on an online slot machine from the comfort of her home. Mum-of-three Lorraine described the moment she realised she had hit the jackpot as “surreal”.

“I remember seeing the figure come up on the screen and I said to my partner Gary, ‘I’ve just won the jackpot’!’’ she said. “I don’t think he believed me, but I could barely believe it myself. “I had to close the page and refresh the screen, but even then I thought there must be a catch.

 “It still has not fully sunk in. It sounds stupid but the whole thing just seems a little surreal.”

Lorraine signed up to the Inter- Casino website on a whim about three years ago after picking up an introductory leaflet. She said she rarely played for cash, choosing instead to take part as a way of relaxing. “Mostly I just play for fun, but that night I decided I would play for real,” she said. I have had a few wins in the past, but nothing very big. I must have spent about £30 that night.” Now, with her win verified, Lorraineand Gary, 41, are working out what to spend it on. Lorraine has two stepsons, Lewis, 14, Jake, seven and an 11-month-old daughter, Casey, and the win could mean a move to a house with more space for everyone.

“We have always wanted to move to a bigger house, so that is the dream at the moment,” said Lorraine. “We are hoping it will make life easier and let us spend more time with the kids.” She said that the win had given them the opportunity to clear some debts. Lorraine said: “It really has changed our life and given us a huge security blanket that we never hadbefore.” She said the win was the second miracle in her life, the first being the birth of Casey last year. Doctors had told her it was unlikely she would be able to have her own children.

Lorraine said: “I just can’t wait to see what happens next year. They do say good luck comes in threes!” She won the cash on the website’s Millionaire’s Club game.
