4th and Goal
Arrow's Edge's 4th and Goal online slot is based on a theme of American football. Sports have been chosen for slot themes for quite a while, and this game does a pretty good job of pulling together all of the elements of the sport to give players a solid experience overall. The atypical Thrill Mode is something that players will want to always have on because it gives them a higher average payout rate, but it comes at the cost of doubling your entire bet size. Overall, this is an interesting game that's one of the best titles from this software company.
Layout and Format
This title uses five reels and three rows to host 15 paylines of action. The first thing you need to do when you play is turn on the Thrill Mode in the top-right corner. This doubles your bet sizes and gives you a chance to get a better payout rate than playing without it. Your minimum bet size with this mode turned on is $0.30, which is like playing $0.02 per payline. You can bet up to $270 per spin in this mode, which gives players plenty of a range for any individual at any level of stakes to enjoy.
The Key Players
There are three key players or symbols in this game, and Arrow's Edge has done a great job with making sure that these symbols make sense in the context of a football game. First up is Jerome, the expanding wild symbol. He shows up on the middle three reels. Page is the blonde cheerleader, and she's a free spins scatter symbol. Colt is the quarterback, and he's responsible for giving players access to the football game bonus round.
In this slot, the coach is the top paying symbol, and he gets you 1,000x for five of a kind. Sticky is in the blue helmet with the football, and he gets 500x for five. Five of Willie, a defense player with number 78, gives you a 400x payout. You can also score a 300x win with five of Terminator, number 54 from the opposing team. All four of these symbols only require two of a kind to pay out.
The minor symbols in this game consist of the A, K, Q, J or 10. They're stylized in a way that makes them stand out while really matching up with the overall theme of the game. Five of the A gets you 150x, and five of the K, Q, J or 10 will get you a solid 100x payout. Something pretty cool about this game is that all of the five of a kind wins give you at least a three-figure payout as a multiple of your line bet.
Free Spins Feature
The cheerleader Page gives you access to free spins. Three or more will get you between 10 and 20 free turns. This is a pretty straight-forward feature, and there's no much else to it, but it's cool that you can get up to 20 free spins at a time.
Football Bonus Feature
If you get three of the Colt symbols (he shows up on the first, third and fifth reels), then you get taken to a bonus feature where you're trying to win a football game in the final seconds. You start by choosing from four different plays to run. If your play scores, then you get to keep going to the next stage in the game. From this stage, you get to select another play, and you can eventually get to kicking an extra point. Alternatively, you can go for a two-point conversion that will win the game instead of tying it, since you're originally down by seven. Long story short, the further you get in the round, the bigger the payouts you get.
This is one of the more in-depth American football slots out there. It has a visual style that's almost on part with some of the games from developers like Net Entertainment, which is surprising since most of the games from Arrow's Edge tend to have poor graphics. With 4th and Goal, however, you get some pretty decent graphics, an interesting set of features and a high hit-rate on the reels. This is definitely a game that American football fans should try.
