The earliest land-based slots were based on different types of fruit. The motif came from your winnings being paid in bubble gum that was in the flavor of the fruit symbols you lined up. Cherry Blast is a throwback to those games from Iron Dog Studio, formerly 1x2gaming, and it's a game with a lot of promise because of the new spin on the older motif. It's also worth pointing out that the graphics in this game are absolutely outstanding, and they're probably the best graphics we've ever seen on a game with this type of concept.

Game Layout

The layout of this game is as usual as it gets. There are five reels, three rows and 20 paylines. You can use coin sizes that go from $0.01 at the bottom end to $2 apiece at the top end, and you can only bet one coin on each payline with no option to change the number of paylines you're playing with on any given spin. This puts the total bet size on a range from $0.20 to $40 each, which covers stakes at every level.

Free Spins Bonus Feature

The golden star with a red center is the free spins symbol. It'll give you nine free spins along with a 100-coin instant payout. During those free spins, you can get the double cherry bomb symbol. It'll explode to give you either a super wild or super scatter symbol, which means some pretty tremendous payouts will be coming your way. Each of these two symbols will cover the middle three reels to some degree.

The super scatter payouts gives some pretty big wins. Nine of a kind pays a whooping 2,000x, the largest payout you can get in the game, and eight pays 800x. Seven gets you 500x, six gets 300x, and five pays 200x. You can win for two or more on the reels, so the chances of winning a prize of some sort with this symbol is tremendous.

Dash Bonus Symbol

The bonus symbol shows up on the middle three reels, and it gives you a chance to play a bonus feature that looks a lot like a Pac-Man game. You'll guide a cherry through one of five paths through a maze of dots, and you'll get an instant win based on getting through the maze or not. The higher the number you choose, the larger the risk of getting through the maze, but the better your payout swill be if you win.

Regular Scatter Symbol

During the normal game mode, there is a green ribbon with a golden crown that acts as the scatter symbol. Three anywhere on the reels will get you an instant win of 80x. It doesn't help with any bonus features, but it does give you an opportunity to get an extra winning combination that does not have to line up on any particular payline.

Wilds and Cherry Bombs

There is a regular wild in this game as well, but it doesn't get its own payouts. A bomb symbol can appear that will give you a chance to get scatters, free spins symbols, bonus symbols or up to five random wilds thrown onto the reels. This symbol is obviously packing a lot of value, and it would be smart to be mindful of it when it shows up on the reels.

Key Payouts

The golden cherry pays 1,000x for five of a kind. It's also the only symbol in this slot that will pay you for just two of a kind. The red seven pays 600x for five, and the golden bell gets you 400x for five. The five of a kind wins for the strawberry, watermelon and lime are 250x, 150x and 100x, respectively. Alternatively, you can pick up wins of 60x for five of the plum or 30x for five of a kind in the kiwi symbol.

Our Thoughts

The Cherry Blast slot is a good example of Iron Dog Studio putting together a game based on a theme that has been used a lot and still creating a fun experience. They've done this by putting together features and gameplay mechanics that you don't often see and by offering up some of the best graphics ever seen for a game in this genre. It's a great formula for giving players something to get excited about, and we really like the cherry bomb motif that has been played into here as well. Overall, this is a solid game with decent gameplay and a good bit of excitement.
