    Wynn Resorts Backs Nevada Online Poker Bill

    Looks like the lines are being drawn in the sand in Las Vegas. Shortly after Michael Gaughan broke ranks with other casino owners and announced his support for the Assembly Bill 258, Nevada’s attempt to legalize online poker, the Wynn has now also stated its support. Assembly Bill 258 is also backed by the online site PokerStars which is the most trafficked online poker site in the world. Now Wynn Resorts Ltd.

    South Point Owner in Favor of Nevada Online Gambling

    It doesn’t look like the entire famed Vegas Strip casino owners are against the proposed online poker bill (Bill 258) in Nevada. Proponents of the bill got another endorsement for the bill and this one came from South Point Hotel and Casino owner Michael Gaughan. The 68 year old casino owner support is in stark contrast to the two major casino companies that have already come out against the bill.

    Iowan Governor Weighs in on Online Gambling Bill

    As the Iowa bill to legalize online gambling within their state goes from a Senate committee to the floor to be possibly voted on, Governor Terry Branstad was asked Monday what he stance is on the bill. It seems he has taken a page from New Jersey’s Governor Christies play book and is playing it right down the middle, for now.

    U.S. Online Gambling Legislation Introduced

    The Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act was introduced in the House yesterday. This bill is identical to the one that Congress Barney Frank got passed out of the House Financial Services Committee last summer but never got to the House for debate with one difference. This one was introduced by California Republican Congressman John Campbell.

    As expected, some pretty big opposition has stepped forward to try and defeat the Nevada online gambling bill that is now trying to make its way through the Nevada Congress. Some of the biggest and most powerful casino companies have lined up against the bill which now looks to go in the direction of all the other recent attempts, defeated or just loss in debate.MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment Corp. have come out against the proposal.

    TwinSpires Spurs Growth of Churchill Down

    Churchill Downs, the race track and gambling company based in Louisville released its fourth quarter results today and showed that it is shifting away from horseracing and there online gambling site Is leading the way.Though results for the quarter were a net loss but it was sufficiently smaller than the same quarter year to date. Net earnings were down for the year by 3% and earnings from racing operations were flat for the year. The growth came from TwinSpires.

    Nevada Trying to Regulate U.S. Online Poker

    Now it is Nevada’s turn. BDR 41-657 is the name of the bill that was proposed yesterday in the Nevada State Assembly that would legalize online poker. Majority Whip William Horne (D-Las Vegas) introduced the bill which has the support of former Speaker and current lobbyist for PokerStars, Richard Perkins. The bill does have some of the same qualities of the bills in New Jersey, Florida, California and Iowa but with one glaring omission.

    Caesars Entertainment and 888 Holding Make Deal

    The Nevada Gaming Control Board approved a business relationship between Caesar’s Entertainment Corp. and Cassava Enterprises (Gibraltar) Ltd. and Fordart Ltd.,which are subsidiaries of 888 Holding Company LLC. This is only the second time an approval has been given under the state’s foreign gaming statutes. In 2007 MGM Mirage was approved to conduct its business with Pansy Ho’s company in Macau.

    Wall Street Journal Asks Should Web Gambling be Legalized?

    There has been a poll put up on the Wall Street Journal community board that asks a pretty basic question: Should web gambling be legalized? This is not the first time the WSJ has posed such a question on its boards and the results as of this article are overwhelmingly in favor.This is not a formal poll by any means and as of today just shows 358 total votes but 78.2% of those voting favor legalizing online gambling.
